![]() Anthony Umina Anthony Umina is an accomplished Salsa dancer from the Bay Area. He began his career with Joelle Maletis in 2006 at San Jose State University. A year later Anthony joined the popular World Championship Team, "Pretty Boys and Girls Productions" in San Francisco, CA where he received the majority of his dance training. In 2009 Anthony took his first step into the "Bachata world." With Bachata Caliente in Los Angeles, and shortly after partnering up with the World Renowned Josie Neglia to perform and conduct workshops at the 1st Annucal California Bachata Congress. He quickly progressed over the next few months entering into the 2009 1st Annual Mayan World Bachata Championships and taking home 2nd Place. Anthony won 1st Place at the 2009 Sexy and Sensual Latin Dance Championships in London, UK with his partner and Co-Director Marissa Johnson. Recently in San Diego, CA he and Marissa have pioneered San Diego's Newest Dance Company and FIRST 100% Bachata Team with a mission to promote, train, create, spread, and unite Bachateros! |
About UsBachatamante Dance Co. was founded in September 2009 by Anthony Umina. The directors of the company are Anthony Umina and Marissa Johnson. Dancing together for less than a year, Anthony and Marissa have already accomplished so much. They have won several competitions and currently teach dance classes 6 nights a week. ![]() Marissa Johnson Marissa Johnson began her Jazz training in her junior year in high school, when she joined the Varsity Colorguard Team. She competed with the team in the WGI World Championships and became its Co-Captain. She also began taking Hip-Hop dance classes with the San Diego Culture Shock Dance Company. She continued her Hip-Hop and jazz training with the San Diego Mesa College Dance Company. Marissa also choreographed for and performed with local artists, and soon joined an intercollegiate Hip-Hop dance troupe called “220.” With “220,” Marissa choreographed and traveled southern California to compete in Hip-Hop dance competitions. Marissa then added a new passion to her repertoire – SALSA DANCING! She began Salsa in February 2009 with Majesty in Motion and by the end of the year she was offered a spot on the World Renowned dance team Alma Latina Pro. Around the same time she joined forces with Anthony Umina, the founder of Bachatamante Dance Company, to teach, perform and compete. In October 2009, they traveled to London, UK and took the first place title at the Sexy & Sensual Latin Dance Festival. In February 2010, they also took first place in the couples division at the Reno International Bachata Festival. |
